Position description: Baristas will be responsible for making coffee and/or tea beverages to order. Baristas will be expected to learn to properly use and clean all related machinery (espresso machines, milk steamers, etc.), take customer orders and handle cash sales at a register in a fast-paced environment.
Additional description: The ideal candidate must enjoy working early morning hours, be quick on their feet and able to respond under pressure. They must be servant-hearted and hospitality-minded, and desire to learn new skills and be a part of the team. Tasks include serving customers, crafting espresso drinks, teas and cold beverages, packaging baked goods, performing pre-service preparation and post-service clean up, and other responsibilities as assigned.
No experience necessary, we will teach you the full menu of Starbucks beverages! Prior barista and beverage experience preferred. This is a seasonal position for the summer starting May and running through the Labor Day weekend in September or later based on travel dates. The work schedule is approximately 6.5-hours per day, 7:00am to 1:30pm with a 20-minute paid break; 3-5 days per week depending upon the availability of the candidate. Students will receive a base hourly wage of $13.00, plus tips generally ranging from $8.00 to $13.00 per hour depending upon the time of season, day worked, and team working.
Bunde’s Bakery Cafe is a small batch, European-style bakery. Celebrating over 80 years of talent, experience, and recipes our handcraft pastries are baked in the European tradition. We are known for our artisan-style Coffee Cakes, Danish, Buns and Breads. Serving generations of loyal customers from the local area and afar, we are deeply rooted in providing exception customer service and superlative bakery goods complimented by a full menu of Starbucks beverages.
In the area: South Haven in Southwest Michigan is located on Lake Michigan (no salt and no sharks!) and is an amazing place full of events and activities year round. Students have access to a fun-packed calendar if they wish to participate in local offerings and festivals. Bunde's Bakery Cafe is a legacy business and known by locals and visitors to the area. We endeavor to serve each customer as if they were part of our family; students will have the opportunity each day to positively impact customers by fufilling our customer service model while sharing about who they are, where they are from, as well as aspects of their culture to further cement that relationship.
Provided by Host: Upon arrival, hosts will introduce participants to the area via a welcome packet that highlights places of interest and things to do, and will provide a detailed tour of the area. Students will be buddied up with a season staff member to assist with assimilation and mentoring to the Bunde’s environment. Sharing of cultural heritage and background will occur on a daily basis as part of the normal day-to-day interaction amongst employees; being a very small business, at Bunde’s we strive to create an atmosphere that feels like family. Each week a staff member will share with the team their favorite recipe from their country of origin, with a Bunde’s Cookbook being compiled for all staff at the end of the season as a memento. Local attractions will be visited such as the famous beaches of South Haven that locals and visitors from near and afar enjoy, Pilgrim Haven where hours can be spent looking for Petosky stones (the State of Michigan stone), and exploring bike trails that lead through some of the most beautiful countryside in Southwest Michigan. Each month a special field trip highlighting both the American and local culture will be organized by the host which may include a visit to the Michigan Maritime Museum to learn about the maritime heritage of the great lakes and see the Friends Goodwill Tallship. Participating in a visit to a local blueberry farm to enjoy U-pick blueberries and celebrate South Haven’s history as the world’s capital of blueberry growing. Or exploring the neighboring downtowns of Douglas, Saugatuck, and Holland and experiencing a sand dune ride, trip on the riverboat Star of Saugatuck, or the famous tulips of Holland at the annual Tulip Time Festival.
