Position: Ice Cream Seller, Barista, Server Assistant, Hosts/hostess, Food and Beverage Assistant, Groundskeeper, Housekeeper, Pool/Beach Attendant
Position description: Servers are responsible for waiting on customers, answering questions, writing down lunch and dinner orders, serving food and drinks, refilling water, dealing with U.S. currency, and setting and clearing tables.
Additional Description: Our Beverage Department provides elegant beverage service in our hotels bars and restaurants overlooking the Great Lakes. Christine’s responsibilities include preparing and serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to hotel guests, presenting daily special options, providing dinner wine service, preparing and serving beverages at events, setting up and breaking down events, participate in all pre-or after shift side works, as well as completing other duties assigned by supervisor to include cross training. We are providing responsible alcohol serving training, TIPs for this position.
You should expect to work 40 hours/week and overtime is available in other departments as well throughout the summer. Your supervisor will assign your shifts for you based on occupancy and volume. Scheduling is flexible for AM, MID, PM shifts and days off may not be available every week.
In the area: On Mackinac Island participants can take carriage tours, visit the historic landmarks of the island by bike, visit the Richard and Jane Manoogian Art Museum, enjoy open air Music At The Park programs weekly and much more. On Mackinac Island participants will have a chance to easily join the local community in their recreational summer activities, like open yoga classes at parks, morning bike ride groups, art seminars provided by local artists. This provides a great opportunity to learn more about American culture as well as local community culture. Participants on their days off can visit Petoskey and Traverse City area, famous for their natural parks and wine culture or they can visit some of the famous landmarks of Michigan's upper peninsula such as Tahquamenon Falls.
Provided by Host: Participants will take part in holiday celebrations such as the 4th of July celebration at historic Fort Mackinac, the 4th of July carnival at the Grand Hotel Tea Garden as well as the annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk. Apart from holiday celebrations we have monthly classes provided at the hotel giving a greater insight to hotel operations and the role of each department. Participants involved in serving alcohol will also receive training on responsible serving and local laws earning a certificate.
